Although the night was cold, it was certainly beautiful. She had only been here once, but she knew that this would be her favorite place, even if she were to see other gardens in Rome. The way that the wild life seemed to grow without human interference amazed her; the way the old willow trees drooped over like blankets, some branches touching the surface of the water just barely. But what she adored the most was the sculptures of people in thought, or some that extended their arms out unto the heavens, as if imploring the angels themselves to give them an actual life, one aside from beauty and stone. They were almost haunting in a way, how their expressions were blank, whereas others were sobbing, some were gazing up into the skies, and then some were gazing and smiling down at the fish in the water. The ripples the trout created reflected off from the sculptures, making them seem alight; almost glowing.
She had the bizarre sensation that they had known each other for a long time; she wanted to be held by him. But that wouldn’t fly too well. They just met, so it wouldn’t be proper. The somewhat tall blades of grass whipped at her knees and legs as she brushed through the field, excited to be back at the only place that wasn’t cluttered with trash or pollution, or anyone else for that matter. It was places like this that the brunette truly felt free, like she was free from any and all responsibilities, and it was nice to share that feeling with someone for once. She was like a bird in the sky, or like one of the many odd trout that now ran into one another, only to scurry away within a screen of bubbles. Sophia smiled at the cute scene before her, staring as if the fish had put on a play for her and Hiroki. She noticed that Hiroki was taking his time walking down to the temple, but it didn’t bother her.
Once he reached the temple her eyes followed his own, and caught the flick of a trout’s tail scurrying away from the water bank. A small almost soft purr-like noise escaped her; a content sigh. If she could live anywhere she wanted, she would choose to live out in the wild, or in some paradise like the Villa they stood at now. She hated large cities, and how the car exhaust was usually so thick it blocked out the image of the stars with it’s smog. That saddened her. To Sophie, to live in a city was to live in a cage. She just couldn’t do it, which was why she often traveled.
The man who stalked in the shadows could care less about where he was, he lived here so he was used to nature and all that shit. It didn’t matter to him, nothing did but potential meals. He lowered himself like a predator getting ready to pounce, but he stayed where he was and merely watched from under the canopy of a willow tree. O yeah, that vampire knew what he was doing alright. Man, he’d have to attack soon if he even wanted a drop of the girl’s blood. This guy liked to take his time apparently, and enjoyed to lull the mortals into a false sense of security around him. Pft, this was taking too long. Luckily for him the girl had forgotten her cell back at the cafe, which he swiped and had managed to find her address on it. Perfect. He would just wait until she left the vampire’s company.
Sophia blinked when she felt a jacket-like garment over her shoulders, and couldn’t help but smile and bite at her lip shyly. “Thank you,” She murmured, her voice almost a whisper while he fixed the blazer over her. He was awfully polite and charming, such in fact that if she didn’t have such a strong will, she would have fainted. But again, this wasn’t a romance novel. His words only made her smile brighter than before. This place was beautiful, and she loved it even more when he had agreed with her.“May I ask you something, Hiroki?” She inquired, her body movements somewhat shy before she looked up at him. “Why did you send me the wine?” She asked with a small ring of happiness to her tone. It wasn’t like she had wished he hadn’t or anything, but now her curiousity was getting the better of her. Call her suspicious, but it was an honest question.

Such a simple question, yet Roki found it difficult to search for the answer. Why had he sent her the wine? He wasn’t sure. It was certain there was a reason behind his actions but it was clearly forgotten or blocked off by the fog of paranoia that filled his mind. Thanks to the other vampire, Hiroki was unable to think straight or clearly. He knew too well that trouble was coming and if not tonight, it would come later on.
“I…” he started, narrowing his eyes away from her as he looked out towards the murky waters before them. Keeping his hands pinned to his sides, he thought over various answers he could give her. Various lies, and lying wasn’t something Roki thoroughly enjoyed. Soon enough and unexpectedly, the reason came back into mind. “I just find you very… intriguing. I had to get your attention somehow and with limited resources, the only thing I could think of doing was offering you a drink from afar without scaring you off.”
Babbling was the last thing he intended to do but before he could even think of stopping himself, the words poured out of his mouth. It shouldn’t have bothered him though. At least he wasn’t lying. Fortunately for him though, it was easy to hide his embarrassment. Having little to no blood coursing through his body, he couldn’t blush. Instead, he kept his gaze locked on the scenery before him rather than look back to her. He was thinking again but not about the mysterious vampire back at the café but about her.
“What took you so long to finally come and approach me?” Turning back to look at her, he offered a reassuring smile that despite the stern tone he spoke in, it was merely a joke. “I’m not scary looking am I?” Another little joke but part of him was serious. He hoped, for his sake, that he wasn’t too intimidating. Not to her at least. Something about her was tugging wildly at his curiosity and needed to find out what it was, other than her eyes. So far her night was going rather well, a strange but amazingly attractive man bought her a glass of wine, and he just seemed to be like something hopeless romantics dreamed about. But here he was, standing with her under the arch way of the temple, and to be even more cliche, in the moon light. It almost made Sophia uncomfortable, but that went away as soon as she saw her company hesitate to answer. So he was just as nervous as her, then? Well, although it granted some small relief, it was relief nonetheless. But she wondered why he was nervous, he was the one who had made the first move, or well technically. Sophia shifted her weight a bit and ran her fingers along the smooth cool metal of the railing while her eyes relaxed upon the dancing waters below her. Even the fish seemed tranquil, but something didn’t feel right; there was tension in the air, but why? She stole a small glance at Hiroki as he stumbled upon his answer. A small little laugh escaped her nose as a smile marked her lips. He certainly was cute when flustered. Her eyes dropped once more to the water, tilting her head curiously as fish began to chase one another in a figure eight motion. Ha, that was irony at it’s best. Ironic because the fish made the symbol for immortality while she spoke to a vampire. When she heard his voice a second time her gaze shifted back toward him as her head turned slightly to face him. So he wasn’t sure why, or he was just having trouble wording it? Either way Sophia was enjoying herself. The brunette propped her elbow upon the railing and rested her chin within the palm of her hand, her relaxed smile growing. Wow, “limited resources”? He spoke so formal, it wasn’t necessary but she strangely liked it. He was worried that he’d scare her off? Sure Sophia was nervous about people, but Hiroki never really gave her a reason to be scared of him. He made a good impression on her so far. He decided he wouldn’t act now, but rather watch and learn about his targets before he made any rash decision. Hmm, the other vampire looked strong. Said vampire took out the cell phone Sophia had forgotten at the cafe and called in a few favors, speaking in such a low whisper it couldn’t be heard over the sound of the fish in the water. It was such a gift from being turned into a vampire. Uhg this was boring. The other merely rolled his eyes and remained as still as a statue, growing impatient with the formalities and inquisitions that the two seemed to be talking about. His fangs ached to pierce flesh, and his ears longed to hear dying gasps, not shady flirting or back stories or how there day was or if someone spiked the punch! God damn it! Well, it looked like he was going to be here a while, might as well make plans for the opportune moment to spring. When he answered her but then asked a question, Sophia bit her lower lip. Ah so, he wanted to know why she was hesitant to approach him? A small giggle escaped her and she straightened her back and gazed up at the moon, it’s light illuminating her soft tan skin. Her teeth relinquished her lower lip before she tilted her head toward him, her eyes moving once to his face before they glanced at the statue by the entrance. Another laugh left her as he persisted, asking if he was scary. “No no, you’re not it is just, how I am,” she attempted to explain, biting her lip out of habit. “Why would I find you scary?” She returned curiously, moving closer toward him, her hand sliding across the railing only to rest in front of his own. Sophia really had a problem with her curiousity, but she enjoyed it and the mysteries it revealed. She wondered if she would be able to solve the one standing before her.
